Malcolm Connolly

Malcolm Connolly worked on Depp’s security detail from 2006. Testifying remotely, he described increasingly frequent arguments between Depp and Amber Heard, a plastic bottle thrown at Depp on a private plane, and a soda can thrown at their building. He said he noticed marks on Depp over time but had not directly witnessed physical violence. In Australia, Connolly said he removed Depp from the residence while Heard shouted and tended to Depp’s injured finger before a doctor arrived.

On cross-examination, Connolly acknowledged receiving substantial gifts from Depp and being loyal to him. He said Heard had always treated him professionally. Defense counsel also established that he was not with Depp every day in Australia and had not mentioned the marks or bruises in his UK testimony. Connolly confirmed that a recording played in court reflected Depp’s upset, angry state at the Australia house. Asked about his view of Heard during the exit, he estimated that he was three to four feet away for only 15 to 20 seconds, in faint stairwell light.
