About

McGivern worked as Depp’s bodyguard for nine years. He testified that arguments between Depp and Amber Heard intensified after their return from Australia in March 2015. During a March 23 penthouse confrontation, he said, Heard threw a can and struck Depp in the face with a closed fist while McGivern stood between them. He testified that Depp did not physically retaliate and that he had never seen Depp physically abuse Heard.

Cross-examination addressed McGivern’s financial dependence on Depp and a difference between his trial account and an earlier UK witness statement about where Heard was when he entered the penthouse. McGivern acknowledged that both Depp and Heard were verbally abusive and that Depp went upstairs to destroy Heard’s clothing. He also confirmed that he was absent from many other disputed incidents, including the May 21, 2016 confrontation.
