Leo J. Presiado questioned witnesses for Depp in the Fairfax County defamation trial. He asked Officer Melissa Saenz about her response to a May 2016 call; she reported seeing no visible injuries on Amber Heard or disorder in the penthouses. He questioned building employee Alejandra Romero about encounters in which she reported seeing no bruising or swelling. On later questioning by Heard’s counsel, Romero said she did not remember seeing Heard on May 23 or 24 and could not tell whether makeup concealed injuries in the videos she was shown.
Presiado also examined Christian Carino about Heard’s post-separation contact with Depp and Carino’s opinion that abuse allegations cost Depp a film role. He asked iO Tillett Wright whether Wright had personally witnessed Depp assault Heard; Wright said he had not. Wright also described injuries he said he saw on Heard and a phone call during which he heard what sounded like an assault. When Presiado asked about harsh statements by both parties, Wright resisted equating their conduct and described seeing Depp throw glasses and dishware.
